Hyundai excavators Technical Specifications

The Korean corporation Hyundai is one of the leaders in the production of construction equipment. In 1988, the first excavator left the company’s assembly line, which immediately entered the top 20 best machines in its segment. A wide range of models and a variety of modifications make it possible to use Hyundai excavators not only in construction but also in other areas of activity.

Hyundai excavators are widely used due to the following qualities:

  • high functionality;
  • affordable cost;
  • reliability;
  • ease of maintenance;
  • a wide range of models;
  • variety of modifications.

All excavators manufactured by Hyundai are divided into two types:

  • tracked;
  • wheeled.

They differ in weight, bucket volume, digging depth, and engine power. And construction vehicles are produced at Hyundai factories, which are located not only in Korea but also in Brazil, China, and even India.

A wide range of models allows you to purchase Hyundai equipment that has certain qualities. You can decide on the choice of model by the name, in which its main characteristics are encrypted. The cipher consists of the following designations:

  • R is a Hyundai excavator;
  • the next three digits indicate the mass of the machine, calculated in centners;
  • LC – caterpillar type;
  • W – wheel type;
  • LCD – the presence of a bulldozer blade;
  • NLC – narrowed dimensions of the undercarriage and control cabin;
  • FS – Hyundai excavator is equipped with a front shovel;
  • D – the presence of an elongated boom and handle;
  • HS – turntable height increased;
  • LR – the machine has an increased dumping height and excavation depth.

All Hyundai excavators, regardless of their place of production, are of high build quality. All excavators are equipped with diesel engines. Some models are equipped with engines developed at Hyundai factories. The other part is equipped with engines of well-known brands (Cummins, Mitsubishi).

Most models of Hyundai excavators are equipped with connectors through which attachments are connected, which significantly expands their scope.

The main advantages of Hyundai crawler excavators

A crawler excavator is an earthmoving machine designed to work in off-road conditions. Tracked models have about 100 modifications, distinguished by carrying capacity, dimensions, and digging depth.

The performance of machines is 90% dependent on the quality of the engine. The power units of the American company Cummins and the Japanese corporation Mitsubishi allow it to be provided. At the same time, Hyundai excavators, in the vast majority of cases, are equipped with American engines. This factor is explained by the lower cost of their diagnostics and repair.

Due to the design features, Hyundai crawler excavators have many advantages:

  • exert low pressure on the ground;
  • have increased cross-country ability and carrying capacity;
  • allow the use of excavators in intensive operation mode (subject to timely diagnostics);
  • have increased maneuverability due to the turntable.

If we compare tracked models of Hyundai excavators with similar models from other manufacturers, we can highlight a number of advantages. Among them is a wide range of modifications weighing from 11 to 50 tons, which allows you to choose equipment to perform any type of work, even in confined spaces.

The increased track width on Hyundai excavators ensures stability, regardless of tonnage, even on the steepest slopes.

The main advantages of Hyundai wheeled excavators

Hyundai wheeled excavators are well-deservedly popular, as they are able to work in almost any condition. They are used for loading/unloading bulk and lumpy materials, excavation, and work in quarries.

The enlarged cab provides excellent all-around visibility, allowing the operator to complete tasks quickly and efficiently. A feature of Hyundai wheeled vehicles is maneuverability. They are able to independently reach the object in urban conditions, overcoming long distances.

Hyundai wheel models are equipped with American and Japanese engines of Cummins and Mitsubishi concerns. The mass of machines varies from 4.5 to 20.6 tons. The bucket volume is from 0.07 to 1.3 m³, and the maximum digging depth is 4.8–6.3 meters. Additional convenience is provided by a computer system for managing and controlling the nodes.

All wheel excavators manufactured by Hyundai can be equipped with additional attachments, such as a hole drill, hydraulic hammer, leveling bucket, or trencher. Thanks to them, machines are able to turn into multifunctional devices capable of performing a wide variety of tasks.

To evaluate the variety of modifications of Hyundai earthmoving equipment and make a choice, you need to familiarize yourself with the characteristics of the models. Among them, you can find both tracked and wheeled excavators.

Hyundai R140W-7A

The excavator of this model is powered by a Cummins four-cylinder engine with a power of 86 kW. Its main advantages are:

  • high power;
  • low fuel consumption;
  • relative quiet operation and low vibration.

The comfortable operator’s cab is equipped with a heating and air conditioning system, as well as a radio and LCD display. Rationally located indicators and sensors greatly facilitate the work of the driver.

The weight of the excavator is 13.6 tons. And such a car moves at speed not exceeding 30 km / h. Digging of pits is possible to a depth of 4.21 meters.

The Hyundai R140W-7A excavator is 2.5 meters wide and 3.14 meters high. It is possible to install buckets with a volume of 0.23–0.71 m³.

Hyundai R180W-9S

This technique is able to withstand significant mechanical loads due to the all-welded frame made of high-strength grades of steel. For the Hyundai R180W-9S model, engines with economical fuel consumption are purchased from the Japanese concern Mitsubishi.

The mass of the excavator is about 18.42 tons, and the engine power is 94 kW. The maximum speed of movement of equipment is 30 km / h. The fuel tank holds 270 liters, which is enough for 27 hours of operation.

The digging depth is 5.42 meters, with a dump height of 6.35 meters. The width of the car is 2.49 meters, and the height is 3.19 meters. The volume of the standard bucket is 1.05 m³, but if necessary, it can be replaced with another bucket.

Hyundai R180LC-9S

This crawler excavator is highly maneuverable thanks to its low weight of 18.6 tons. With a small mass, it is capable of digging deep pits (up to 6 meters) and unloading soil to a considerable height, covering an area at a distance of 7.7 meters.

The equipment is equipped with a Mitsubishi diesel engine and a bucket with a capacity of 0.76 m³, as well as direct fuel injection. The turbocharged engine is air-cooled. And the cold start system allows you to start the engine at moderate temperatures without operator intervention.

The Hyundai R180LC-9S excavator is a machine that has a minimal impact on the environment. The manufacturer managed to achieve this by installing a catalyst in the exhaust system.

Like any other tracked equipment, this excavator is characterized by a low speed of movement, not exceeding 5.5 km / h. But it will become indispensable in quarrying, thanks to its ability to overcome slopes up to 35 °.

Hyundai produces several models of excavators weighing 20 tons. All of them differ in modifications and design features. But it is R210LC-7 that is most in demand in the construction industry.

At the heart of the 23.7-ton machine is a 112 kW Cummins engine. In most cases, this excavator model is equipped with a bucket with a capacity of 1.4 m³. But in some trim levels, it has been replaced by smaller models.

The machine moves at a speed of no more than 5.5 km / h, digging to a depth of 6.55 meters and unloading soil to a height of 6.9 meters. But the radius of excavation is as much as 10 meters.

The excavator’s work is controlled by a computer system for controlling the power of the engine and the central console. In the cold season, the pre-heating function will be very useful. In the future, the engine can be started by using the cold start system.

This excavator is capable of operating at air temperatures below 40°C. Due to the extended shoes, the tracks do not exert significant pressure on the ground. Therefore, this model is applicable to low-density soils.

Hyundai R250LC-7

This machine is powered by a six-cylinder diesel engine with a 128 kW turbine. The hydraulic system is equipped with two pumps with a brake valve, with the help of which it is supplied.

The Hyundai R250LC-7 excavator is capable of carrying out earthworks within a radius of 10.4 meters, digging pits and trenches 7 meters deep, and unloading soil to a height of 6.7 meters.

The operator, being in the excavator cab, is able to view the object in all possible directions, which increases the efficiency and speed of work. There is no need to stop them even at night, as two powerful headlights perfectly illuminate the working surface.

Hyundai excavators are equipped with a convenient control system that includes a pair of joysticks, the same number of levers, and pedals. All of them are located in the access zone. The cab has an ergonomic seat that the operator can adjust based on height and dimensions.

Hyundai Motor Company is a South Korean automaker headquartered in Seoul. It is the largest automotive company in Korea and the fourth largest in the world. Its name means
«Modernity» or «New time».

The founder of Hyundai Motor Company, Chon Joo Yeon, was born in 1915 in the small village of Asan, which is now located in North Korea. He was the eldest son of a family of poor peasants,
however, despite a hard life, he received his primary education.

At the age of 16, Jung Joo Yong sold his father’s cow and left his home. He went to Seoul in search of a better life. There he worked on the construction of a railway, in the port and as an
accountant’s assistant. Jung Joo Young’s first entrepreneurial experience came in 1938 when he opened his own rice shop. Nevertheless, a year later, he was forced to close his business due to the
policies of the Japanese occupation forces.

After the end of the war, Chung Joo Young began repairing trucks for the American military. He then went into the civil engineering business and founded Hyundai Civil Industries. Her staff
numbered 11 workers, and perhaps she would not have become so successful if not for the help of her younger brother, who spoke good English. This helped to collect many orders from the US
military, which paid handsomely. All this contributed to the development of the company.

In addition, Park Jong Chi, an authoritarian but determined to carry out effective economic reforms, came to power in Korea. For each sector of the economy, he selected one leading company based
on the talents of its leader. This company was guaranteed state support and financial assistance. This is how he created the famous South Korean chaebols.

When Park Jung Chi turned his attention to the construction sector, Jung Joo Young decided to get the president’s favor and began rebuilding a bridge in Seoul that was blown up during the war.
The project was unprofitable, but ended ahead of schedule and, of course, attracted the attention of Park Jong Chi. Hyundai has been selected as one of the top exporters of construction services
in Vietnam, Southeast Asia and then the Middle East.

The capitalization of the company grew, and along with it, its activities diversified. The headquarters of Hyundai’s automotive division was opened in Seoul on December 29, 1967. Six months
later, the first plant with a capacity of 20,000 vehicles per year began operation. The brand had no experience in the automotive industry, so it turned to a well-known world authority — Ford
Motor for help. Soon the licensed Ford Cortina MK I rolled off the assembly line.

Until the beginning of the 80s, cooperation with an American company continued, the Granada and Taurus models were produced. However, the brand’s management decided to develop its own car.

In August 1973, Hyundai announced the start of design work for the first passenger car, led by George Turnbull, former managing director of Austin Morris. In addition, the construction of a new
plant in Ulsan has started.

When creating the first car — Hyundai Pony — the Italian studio Italdesign Giugiaro was involved, as well as hi-tech specialists from Great Britain and Japan. However, the main help came from
Mitsubishi Motors, which helped build the new plant. Many elements of the first-born Hyundai, in particular the engines and transmissions, were borrowed from the Mitsubishi Colt.

In 1986, Hyundai begins selling cars in the United States. The Hyundai Pony was not allowed to enter the US market because it did not meet emission requirements. But the car was popular in

Inspired by the success of the first model, Hyundai Motor develops Excel, with which it enters the Fortune 10 market in America, thanks in large part to its affordability. It was a front-wheel
drive car, which was produced in the body of a four-door sedan, as well as a three- and five-door hatchback.

Like the Pony, the new model was designed by Italdesign. It was equipped with a four-cylinder engine, which was paired with a manual or automatic transmission.

In some markets, including Europe, the Excel was named Hyundai Pony. In South Korea, the hatchback was marketed as the Pony Excel and the sedan as the Presto. In the first year of sales, the
volume of this model was 160,000 units.

In the late 1980s, the company began producing cars using its own technology. The first such model was the Sonata. After the first two years of production, its production was stopped due to
negative reactions from customers. Therefore, the second generation is often regarded as the original Sonata.

The first generation had to compete with Daewoo Royal. It received cruise control, power seats, brake booster and chrome bumpers. In Korea, the model was offered in two trim levels — Luxury and
Super.

In 1989, the brand creates its first engine with a volume of 1.5 liters. They named it Alpha. After that, Beta, Gamma, Delta, etc. appeared.

In the spring of 1990, Hyundai car production reached four million units. In 1991, the company created its first four-cylinder gasoline engine as well as its own transmission, thus paving the way
for technological independence. The company began giving its cars a 10-year or 10,000-mile warranty, which spurred demand in the United States.

In 1991, the Hyundai Galloper was developed on the basis of the first generation Mitsubishi Pajero. It was offered in three- and five-door bodies and was equipped with a three-liter V6 engine
developing 141 hp. and 220 Nm of torque.

In 1992, Hyundai unveiled the HCD-I concept car, the first in a line of concept cars to show the direction of the brand’s vehicles. The Hyundai HCD-II sports coupe debuted the same year. It was

1995 saw the introduction of the Accent, known in some markets as the Verna. On its basis, Solaris will later be developed for the Russian market.

The new product replaces the outdated Excel. It was produced with a sedan body, as well as a three- and five-door hatchback. Buyers could choose between two engine options — 1.3 and 1.5 liters.

In 1998, Hyundai Motor began to work hard on its image to establish itself as a world-class brand. A year later, Chung Joo Young hands over the management of Hyundai Motor to his son, Chong Mong
Ku, and parent company Hyundai Motor Group has invested heavily in quality, design, manufacturing excellence and long-term research and development of its vehicles. This was largely due to the
deteriorating financial situation and the need to restructure the company.

In the same year, after the apogee of the financial crisis that overtook the Asian countries, Hyundai, driven by ambitious goals, buys out the bankrupt Kia Motors.
